Were you there?
Twenty years ago on this day - 28th June 1997, almost 45,000 people gathered at the famous Wembley Stadium in London, UK, for "Champion of The World".
The event was organised by a small team of people including - Noel & Tricia Richards, Gerald Coates, Greg Lynn, Amanda Kindred (nee Collins), Jon Pac and Les Moir. We were crazy enough to think that people would come from all over the UK and further afield, to celebrate our faith in Jesus Christ the 'Champion of the World' - and they did!
with flags and banners
great enthusiasm
and interesting hats!
The event featured many singers and dancers including:
The Wades
Sue Rinaldi
Matt Redman
Delirious?
Gerald Coates
...........and a much younger version of Noel Richards!
.........with the legendary ponytail,
singing the theme song for the event.
The video of "Champion of The World" was produced by Stephen Bennett from Australia. Click to view.
We were grateful to all of you who came along and made this such a wonderful day.
Since then, many others, inspired by what happened at Wembley, have gone on to fill arenas and stadiums around the world.
Long may the journey continue........
