Song of the Week - Heal Our Nation

Featuring the beautiful, soaring voice of Sue Rinaldi, this song has a timeless quality to it. In this current season, it seems as relevant now as when first written.

This present crisis with COVID 19, seems to be driving a wedge through our communities. Everyone has their own opinion; somewhere on the scale between the two extremes of it being a government hoax, to the end of civilisation as we know it. We see this expressed in how people are becoming aggressive in their mask wearing or non-mask wearing.

There is a UK columnist – Jeremy Clarkson – whose article in the Sunday Times last weekend declared that Britain (to take one example) is becoming very bitter. It is worth reading, even if he does have a cheeky dig at cyclists in his last sentence.

His final paragraph reads: “Everyone. Tories, Muslims, young people, the elderly, migrants, rockers, hip-hoppers, Jewish people, vegetablists, white people, bacon enthusiasts, speed freaks, the fat, the fit, the timid, black people, policemen, Christians, vicars and socialists. If we want to live in a happy country, we’ve all got to come together as one”.

As Christians, we have many differing views that divide us, but we are encouraged to maintain our unity. Our love for one another will speak to those who are watching our lives:

“Let me give you a new command: Love one another. In the same way I loved you, you love one another. This is how everyone will recognize that you are my disciples—when they see the love you have for each other.” John 13:35 (The Message)

We have no quick and easy answers for the situation we are in but we can join our hearts and voices together (even if only online) and pray for God to bring His healing power to the communities where we live.

The process starts with us:

Lord, we long for You to move in power;
There's a hunger deep within our hearts,
To see healing in our nation.
Send Your Spirit to revive us:

Heal our nation
Heal our nation,
Heal our nation,
Pour out Your Spirit on this land.

Lord we hear Your Spirit, coming closer,
A mighty wave to break upon our land,
Bringing justice, and forgiveness.
God we cry to You, 'Revive us':
